American Water Spaniel
Named the Wisconsin state dog in 1985, the American Water Spaniel was actually developed in the state during the 19th century! Regardless, it is still considered a rare breed and was saved from near obscurity by Dr. Fred J. Pfeifer in the 1910s who put so much effort into preservation that his efforts got it included in the United Kennel Club AND the American Kennel Club.
