American Wirehair

American Wirehair cats originated in Vernon, New York in 1966. A litter of kittens produced one male red and white cat with a wiry coat. This cat, Adam, was then bred with a female Rex owned by breeder Joan O'Shea. The litter retained the mutation and a broad breeding project was born! They are still a rare breed, 41st on the list of the Cat Fancier's Association.
