Beagle
The origin of the name "Beagle" is unknown, although the common theory is that it comes from the French word "begueule" which means "gate throat" because of their throaty baying. This looks like a miniature foxhound but was mostly used to hunt hare. They have one of the best noses in the canine world and are employed often to scent contraband at international checkpoints, especially agriculture. In the AKC, the 15 inch Beagle category includes all examples 15" tall or higher.
