Belgian Tervuren / Belgian Sheepdog

The Belgian Sheepdog and Belgian Tervuren are two high-energy fiercely loyal working dogs from Belgium. They share a similar build and coat length, but differ in their standard colors and town of origin! The Belgian Tervuren is from the town of Tervuren and come in many shades of brown whereas the Belgian Sheepdog, also known as the Groenendael, is from the town of Groenandel and comes only in black (sometimes with bits of white). Earlier in the development of these Belgian breeds, the Sheepdog, the Tervuren, the Malinois, and the Lakinois were all considered one breed called the Belgian Shepherd. They were separated into different breeds based on coat length, type, and color and now stand as their own proud, loving breeds.
