Birman

There is no official record of the Birman cat's origins. The name comes from the French word for Burma where these cats are said to be companions of the temple priests on the Mount of Lugh. Legend has it that they came to France through theft and smuggling, although other legends claim they were given as gifts in thanks for defending the mountain temple against invaders. Nowadays they are known as the national cat of Burma and famous for their deep blue eyes.
