Boerboels are a large-sized dog bred in South Africa from a cross between mastiffs and bulldogs. They were bred as guard dogs but were also used for hunting big game. They have a strong protective drive and can show aggression to strangers and other dogs. For this reason many nations in Europe have placed legal restrictions on the breed, but like any large dog with the proper love and training Boerboels can be wonderful companions.
