Catahoula Leopard Dog
Also called the "Louisiana Catahoula," the Catahoula Leopard dog is a very old and mysterious breed. Named after the Catahoula Parish in Lousiana where they were bred and their patchy/spotted leopard-like coats, the origins of the Catahoula breed is not known for certain. They were bred by French settlers in the mid-1700s in order to create the best all-around working dog. The significance of the breed to local history led to the Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog being named state dog of Louisiana.
