Caucasian Shepherd Dog

This great hairy livestock dog was bred in the Soviet Union in 1920. Its ancestry lies in the Caucasus Mountains and the Russian steppe country where these long-haired muscular guardians defended herds and hunted bears. Also known as the Caucasian Ovcharka, these dogs have a tragically short lifespan for dogs their size at only five and a half years on average... of course, this was a statistic taken from a pool of only 22 members, so it may not be accurate.
