The Bulldog is a lovable icon of British culture. The low-slung, thickly built breed was used in the sport of bull-baiting back in the 1600s. In the years since the sport ended, the Bulldogs became designer dogs whose anatomy was pressed further and further into the extreme. By the modern era, their squished-in noses and extremely broad shoulders were affecting their overall health. Steps have been taken by many clubs to reverse this trend and return the Bulldog to a healthier breed standard.
