Feist (Treeing and Mountain)

This American dog breed dates all the way back to the founding of the country, that is mentioned in George Washington's diary as "a small foist-looking yellow cur." This trademark 'feistiness' has continued through generations, giving these ratters and game hunters a reputation for high energy and belligerence despite its small size. Feists are considered a "type" of dog that include scrappy little hunters like Rat Terriers, but the UKC recognizes two distinct lines of Feist - the Mountain Feist which is a more regulated breed standard with tall ears and docked tails, and the Treeing Feist which is a working-class dog that allows for more variety in size and presentation.
