These French hunting dogs were bred from the Grand Griffon to be the perfect hare hunter! In modern times, they are gun dogs and experts at all sorts of mammalian game from rabbits to boars. They are very loyal and affectionate dogs, who are sometimes mischievous. They are pack dogs most comfortable with others, so expect to have yours at your side all day long. This Grand Basset Griffon Vendéen (or GBGV) is modeled after Chablis Du Levant De La Vielle Marne (Chablis for short) who was one of the founding fathers of the breed in the US and an enthusiastic member of CHAMP where he served as a therapy dog.
