One of the largest dog breeds, the Great Dane hails from the Middle Ages when they were kept as hunting dogs. More than tracking, their large size was well-suited to take down large game such as deer and wild boar. Great Danes are more famous in modern circles for their media presence. Notable famous Great Danes are comic character Marmaduke and cartoon hero Scooby Doo.
