LaPerms are named after their curly coats, which are the result of a naturally occurring mutation in their genes. The breed can trace its origins back to a single cat named Curly who was born as part of a litter of farm cats in the 1980s. The owners, Linda and Richard Koehl, allowed Curly to interbreed with other cats for ten years until a small colony emerged and with it, a new breed of domestic cat!
