Munchkin

The name of the Munchkin cat comes from the Munchkins, a diminutive race of people in the Wizard of Oz. The breed is distinct because of is short legs, that come from a genetic mutation that sometimes happens in cats. The Munchkin wasn’t officially labeled its own breed until 1991. Many cat breeders believe that breeding to achieve the mutation is bad for the health of the animals, so breeding Munchkin cats is actually illegal in several countries.
