Papillon

The word Papillon means "butterfly" in French, which you may understand when you see this dog's large winglike ears. Also known as the Continental Toy Spaniel, it is one of the oldest small dogs on record although the butterfly-eared variety didn't appear until the 16th century. Before then, the dog primarily had drop-ears, a version of the dog that still exists today and goes by the name Phalene... Moth!
