Persian
Persian cats were imported to Italy and France in the 1620s. Before that, they were widespread throughout Persia and surrounding areas. Their long hair and short snouts made them desirable for cat fanciers. Genetic research has discovered that while these cats retained the name of their homeland, they've been so interbred with western breeds that they bear no more genetic markers of the Persian ancestors.
