Saint Bernard

For many, the first thought people have of the Saint Bernard is of a rescue dog traipsing the Swiss Alps with a flagon of brandy around his neck. This image is not so far from the truth! The Saint Bernard was made famous by the Hospice of St. Bernard Pass who acquired the dogs in the 1660s and used them to help rescue people. They are big, gentle creatures with the strength to pull a cart and hearts of gold.
