Schnauzer

Schnauzer in German means "snout," a reference to the distinguished mustaches these friends sport. They are of above average intelligence for dogs and as a result are known as excellent working dogs. They are traditionally styled with tail docked and ears cropped, although this is illegal in many countries. The practice was taken on to protect them from the rats they hunt on the farm. Without floppy ears, the rats have nothing to grab onto. They are also used as guard dogs and alert the household to invaders by barking.
