Scottish Fold and Scottish Straight
|
Originally called Lops, the Scottish Fold is a breed of cat defined by a genetic mutation that causes weakened cartilage throughout the body that results in the ears folding cap-like over the head. The Scottish Fold comes in a long haired and short haired variety and are known for their rounded bodies and large owl-like eyes. When a Scottish Fold kitten is born without the ears lopped forward they're known as the Scottish Straight, which is considered its own breed. Both Folds and Straights carry the gene for weakened cartilage which can affect the cat's whole body not just the ears.
