Once known as the Australian Silky Terrier or Sydney Silky Terrier, this breed was created in the 1800s by crossing the Australian Terrier and a Yorkshire terrier with a goal of creating a hearty vermin catcher. While a terrier, the Silky qualifies for the toy group being less than 10lbs and 10 inches high. The Silky's size does not deter it! They are precocious little pets who are up to any challenge. They are even used as watch dogs because of all their excitable barking. Great for urban owners, these active little friends can get into all kinds of shenanigans so bring your brush, your comb, and your sense of humor to any party with a Silky Terrier!
