Staffordshire Bull Terrier
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier (aka Staffie or Stafford) was developed in the 19th century to create a "generic type of dog" by breeding the Bull dog with various terriers. The result is a well-muscled small-to-medium sized dog used for everything from guarding to blood sport. Thankfully dog fighting is no longer allowed in the UK in 1835. The modern Stafford most closely resembles the original Bull Terrier before the two breeds diverged.
