Tonkinese

The Tonkinese cat bears a strong resemblance to the Siamese and Burmese cat varieties, a trait that for a long time almost destroyed it. Native to Malaysia, the breed was folded into the similar breeds as variants for many years until a concerted effort of crossbreeding Siamese and Burmese to bring back Tonkinese traits saw the original breed established in 2001. The name refers to the Tonkin region of Indochina, even though the cat itself has no ties to that area of the world.
